Board Meeting
May 25, 2011
Present: Greg Warner, Jill Smith, Rita Russell, Terry Russell, Karrie Geroux, Sally Arrindell, and Carolyn Tommeraas
Absent: Eliza Mitchell and Maggie Brimijoin
Guests: David Arrindell
Greg opened the meeting at 7:05 pm at the Olmsted National Bank Building. The minutes of the April 27, 2011 were approved with minor revision.
Treasurer’s Report: Rita and Terry reviewed the Treasure report. Current available funds are $6,587.27. It was noted that we will no longer have revenue from the First Sunday lesson as this is now free to members.
FUNdraiser: The Board discussed the May FUNdraiser. Greg sent thank you notes to the dance studios. We raised $290 this year, not as much as last year but we did not have prior sign up and this was seen as a contributor to the lower participation rate. It was decided to change the format for 2012. A “dance card” will be created for each volunteer dancer with the dance recommendations for each 3-dance set. For example, each set will include at least one smooth along with two of the following: swing, west coast, cha cha, rumba, etc. Sign up sheets will also be available beginning in March.
Music License: Jill reported that she is working with Sally Gallager of the Senior Center and ASCAP to resolve the licensing issues.
Fall Formal: Carrie reported that the Senior Center will not be available for the September 26 date as the Senior Center is celebrating their 50th anniversary. Carrie reviewed alternatives and it was decided to hold the Fall Formal at the Senior Center on Friday, September 30. Andy Trawick will be the DJ. Carrie will confirm with the Senior Center and Andy before publicizing the change. We will not have workshops this year.
Demonstrations: Sally reported the activity at the Salvation Army Caring Partners was a success and we may be invited back in the fall. The Madonna Towers event where we are to have one dance couple facilitate others dancing has not been successful. She will reach out to Madonna Meadows since this is assisted living with more active residents.
Policy: The Board approved a motion to write a policy to prohibit loaning of USA Dance Chapter 2017 equipment without at least 30-day prior written approval by the Board. Greg to draft policy for Board review.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm, respectfully submitted by Greg Warner.
