Board Meeting
October 26, 2011
Members present: Greg Warner, Jill Smith, Terry Russell, Rita Russell, Carolyn Tommeraas, Kerri Geroux and Maggie Brimijoin. Guests: Jim Geroux and Paula Boos
Greg Warner opened the meeting at 7:10. The minutes were approved with one grammatical change.
Treasurer’s Report: The beginning balance was $7,821.77. We had expenses of $506.54 for October (including expenses for the formal and the regular October dance) and members’ October dance lesson and revenues of $626.00 from the October dance. The final accounting of the September formal shows $1,350 received in admissions minus $750 in expenses for a profit of approximately $600.00. The next quarterly payment for rent at the SeniorCenter is due soon. The current rate is $225.00 per month but there is an increase for the next quarter plus a cleaning fee. (According to an email after the meeting, the new rate will be $338 per month or $1,105 per quarter.) Board members approved the printing of a pink brochure ($45.95) to advertise our December fundraiser for Join the Journey.
New Business: November dance is free for members and the lesson will be by instructors from Fred Astaire Dance studio. We will be recognizing the members as a group at the dance and specifically acknowledging those who have volunteered their time to help the organization and its dances. The pink brochures will be ready to encourage people to come and donate to Join the Journey in December.
December dance: We will hold the Annual Meeting at the December dance. Brenda Sonnenberg will conduct the lesson from 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm and then we will have the annual meeting. The dance is also a fundraiser for Join the Journey. A representative of the organization will be there to talk about their work. All profits (revenues minus expenses) from the dance and all the money donated directly that night or received for the gift baskets (minimum bid $25) will be given to the organization. Wear Pink!!! There will be three performances: Dahl Dance Studio’s Red Co, UMR Dance Team and Blue Moon’s Dance Team. We plan to take pictures for our website.
The Russells will be contacting a local singer for the January Dance. Greg has revised a list of volunteer opportunities and there will be sign up sheets at the dance.
Student Tea Dance: The tentative date for the student tea dance is Sunday, April 22nd and Greg will make arrangements with the SeniorCenter.
February Valentine Formal: We still need a dance committee chairman! We will need some new decorations and balloons (as a give away for door prizes.
Eagles Cancer Telethon will be January 14 and 15th. Paula will do the music for our performance and we will make a donation. We would like to have all ages dancing.
Music: We had compliments on Karrie Geroux’s music at the last dance. We discussed how to add to our collections. Although it is time consuming, songs should be cut. Playlists are nice to have.
Community Ed Dance Classes were cancelled this semester because of low enrollment.
